Baby Back Ribs Recipe

In this tasty baby back ribs recipe, pork loin back ribs are seasoned with a simple chili-powder-based dry rub for ribs, and steamed over dark ale.

This baby back ribs recipe works equally well for spareribs, just increase the steaming time of the ribs to two hours.

For this bbq ribs recipe you will need:

3 racks back ribs (3 pounds)

1 12 ounce bottle dark ale

Your favourite bbq sauce

For the simple rib rub recipe you will need:

2 tablespoons coarse salt

2 tablespoons chili powder

1 tablespoon coarse black pepper

How to Prepare Ribs:

Pre-heat oven to 325°F

If the ribs have a thin, translucent membrane on the bone-side of the rib rack, remove and discard it.

Slide the blade of a dinner knife underneath the membrane and lift and loosen it until you can peel it off. (If you are finding it difficult to grip, use a paper towel or dish cloth. Also sometimes starting in the middle of the rack is easier.)

How to prepare dry rub for ribs:

In a small bowl, combine salt, pepper and chili powder; mix well.

Season both sides of the rib racks with 1 tablespoon of barbecue rib rub. (2 tablespoons if you are cooking spareribs.)

Place ribs, meaty side up, on a rimmed baking sheet.

Use a second baking sheet to avoid overcrowding.

Pour beer onto baking sheet(s).

Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 60 minutes, (2 hours for spare ribs), or until meat is tender and is beginning to recede from bones.

Remove from oven, cool and refrigerate until the grill is ready. (The ribs can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.)

Prepare grill for direct heat with temperature at medium low.

Place ribs on grill and baste with bbq sauce.

Flip and baste other side.

Baste and turn every few minutes or so until bbq baby back ribs are nicely coated and hot.

Bbq sauce burns very easily, so keep a close eye on them.
