Barbecue Spare Ribs Recipe

Mouth-watering bbq spareribs can be seasoned with a zesty dry rub for ribs, baked a day ahead, and refrigerated.

Make the barbeque sauce the day before too, and use it to baste these delicious oven-cooked pork ribs, on your grill, the following day.

Tip: This barbecue spare ribs recipe makes easy party appetizers too: Adjust the serving size of the recipe and baking time as needed, depending on number of guests. Apply barbecue rib rub, and then using a sharp knife cut the rack into 2-rib or 3-rib portions. After baking, baste appetizer ribs on the grill with bbq sauce. And when serving this barbecue spare ribs recipe don’t forget to supply lots of napkins!

For this bbq spare ribs recipe you will need:

1 rack (5 pounds) pork spareribs, trimmed of excess fat, rinsed, and patted dry

For the rib rub recipe you will need:

2 tablespoons paprika

2 tablespoons chili powder

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Salt and black pepper

For the barbeque sauce recipe you will need:

1 can (14 ounces) tomato puree

1/2 cup honey

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

2 garlic cloves, minced

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In a small bowl, combine paprika, chilli powder, cumin, cayenne, salt and pepper.

Set aside 1 tablespoon of the bbq dry rub recipe to add to the easy homemade bbq sauce.

Apply bbq ribs rub to both sides of spareribs.

Arrange ribs, fatty side up, on a rimmed baking sheet, and cover tightly with foil.

Bake until tender, about 1 1/2 hours. (There will be hot liquid in baking sheet when removed from oven.)

How to make bbq sauce:

In a small saucepan, combine tomato purée, honey, Worcestershire, garlic, reserved spice mixture, and 3/4 cup water.

Bring barbeque sauce ingredients to a boil.

Reduce heat, and simmer, 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until barbeque sauce is thickened and reduced to about 1 1/2 cups.

Prepare grill for direct grilling and heat to medium.

If preparing as a main course, cut ribs into four equal parts.

Brush ribs generously with homemade bbq sauce; grill until charred in spots, 3 to 5 minutes per side.

Serve barbecue spare ribs with remaining homemade barbeque sauce.

This bbq spare ribs recipe serves 4 for dinner.
