Mashed Potato Recipe
Here’s a an old fashioned mashed potato recipe that you can dress up any way you wish. These fluffy mashed potatoes are simple and delicious on their own—classic comfort food. But for variety try adding roasted garlic, or freshly chopped herbs, or freshly grated parmesan to this basic mashed potatoes recipe too. We’ve given the basic amounts of milk and butter, but of course you can additional butter or milk to change up the texture of this recipe for mashed potatoes from fluffy and creamy, to even richer, creamier delicious mashed potatoes. Tips on how to mash potatoes: You can use a ricer or an electric mixer for making mash potatoes too. Just don’t use a food processor--they will turn out gummy. If after draining the potatoes seem overcooked (i.e. soggy) when you return them to the pot, cook them over low heat for about 2 minutes to dry them out.
For this mashed potatoes recipe you will need:6 medium russet or Idaho potatoes ½ cup milk ¼ cup butter (1 stick) Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
How to make mashed potatoes:Peel and cut potatoes into 1 1/2-inch-thick slices Place potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with about 2 inches of cold water Cover pot and bring potatoes to a boil over high heat until tender (15 to 20 minutes) Meanwhile in a small saucepan, or in the microwave, warm milk and butter on low heat Drain potatoes well and return them to still-warm saucepan. Add warmed milk and butter. Using a potato masher, mash potatoes until fluffy. Season with salt and pepper to your taste. This mash potato recipe serves 6.
