Strawberry Shortcake Recipe



With this easy strawberry shortcake recipe you save a step--buy a tub of Cool Whip or can of Whipped Cream to spread between layers of cake.

While the cake is baking, prepare the berries and then it’s just a simple matter of assembling this luscious strawberry shortcake dessert.

For homemade strawberry shortcake you will need:

6 cups of sliced strawberries

1/2 cup sugar

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 cup butter

1 egg, beaten

2/3 cups milk

Whipped Cream or Cool Whip


How to make strawberry shortcake:

Preheat oven to 450 F.

Gently mix together sliced berries and 1/4 cup of the sugar; set aside.

In a large mixing bowl combine remaining sugar, flour, and baking powder.

Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a small measuring jug stir together egg and milk.

Add to milk-egg mixture to dry ingredients and stir to moisten.

Spread batter into a greased 9-inch round baking pan, building up edge slightly.

Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or till toothpick, or cake tester, inserted near center comes out clean.

Cool in pan 10 minutes.

Remove from pan.

Split into 2 layers.

Spoon the fruit and Whipped Cream between layers and over top.

Serve immediately.
